AlthoughthemicrocontrollerhasaninternalRCresetfunction,iftheVDDpowersupplyrisetime isnotfastenoughordoesnotstabilisequicklyatpower-on,theinternalresetfunctionmaybe incapableofprovidingproperresetoperation.Forthisreasonitisrecommendedthatanexternal RCnetworkisconnectedtotheRESpin,whoseadditionaltimedelaywillensurethattheRESpin remainslowforanextendedperiodtoallowthepowersupplytostabilise.Duringthistimedelay, normaloperationofthemicrocontrollerwillbeinhibited.AftertheRESlinereachesacertain voltagevalue,theresetdelaytimetRSTDisinvokedtoprovideanextradelaytimeafterwhich themicrocontrollerwillbeginnormaloperation.TheabbreviationSSTinthefiguresstandsfor SystemStart-upTimer.
