ThelowerbyteoftheProgramCounter,knownastheProgramCounterLowregisterorPCL,is availableforprogramcontrolandisareadableandwriteableregister.Bytransferringdatadirectly intothisregister,ashortprogramjumpcanbeexecuteddirectly,however,asonlythislowbyte isavailableformanipulation,thejumpsarelimitedtothepresentpageofmemory,thatis256 locations.Whensuchprogramjumpsareexecuteditshouldalsobenotedthatadummycyclewill beinserted. ThelowerbyteoftheProgramCounterisfullyaccessibleunderprogramcontrol.Manipulatingthe PCLmightcauseprogrambranching,soanextracycleisneededtopre-fetch.Furtherinformation onthePCLregistercanbefoundintheSpecialFunctionRegistersection. |
